Passing of a Dedicated Teacher by Dan Winegar

We would be remiss in failing to mention the passing of Miss Edna G. Thompson, retired head of the English Department at Batavia High School, who succombed after a lengthy illness.

Miss Thompson, for a number of years, taught English 4. While we were in another class, there were many that year and many over the years who admired and respected her.

The text was called "Literature and Life," and went from the beginnings of our Language,  through all the great English authors, to the present. It is a pleasure to see that the course remains essentially unchanged thirty years later.

Miss Thompson gave many years to inculcating a love of both literature and life. Her many students testify to her success.

It is very rare for a teacher to have a yearbook dedicated to her. Miss Thompson had two, one near the beginning of her career at BHS and one at the end.
