Daniel J. Bender

Services will be Wednesday for Daniel J. Bender, 69, of 75 Avery Place, Cheektowaga, a retired machine shop teacher in the Batavia school system. He died Saturday evening, January 6, 1973. in Buffalo General Hospital.

Mr. Bender, a lifelong Buffalo resident, was graduated from Elm Vocational School in Buffalo and received teacher training from both Buffalo State Teachers College and the University of Buffalo. He taught for two years at Emerson and Seneca Vocational High Schools in Buffalo.

Mr. Bender taught at the Batavia Metal Trades Vocational School from 1943 until the new Batavia High School was constructed in 1961. He taught shop there until his retirement in 1969.

Mr. Bender was a member of the New York State Teachers Assn. and the Batavia Teachers Assn. He was an active member of St. Andrew's United Church of Christ, 2205 Genesee Street, and served as a member of the Church Council, and the Men's Brotherhood, and as treasurer of the Sunday School for many years.

He is survived by his wife, the former Dorothy P. Gorenflo, a daughter, Mrs. Nancy MacKenzie of Columbus, Ohio; a brother, Fred W. Bender of Buffalo, and three grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 1:00 pm at St. Andrew's Church. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Cemetery in Gardenville.
