Robert T. Howe Sr.

BATAVIA - Robert T. Howe Sr., 92, a Batavia City School District teacher and administrator and who was active in maany civic organizations, died Friday, June 4, 2004, at home.

Mr. Howe was born Aug. 6, 1911 in Little Falls, a son of the late Gervaise and Susan Severance Howe. He grew up in Herkimer and graduatedd from Herkimer High School in 1929. He received a bachelor's and master's degree from St. Lawrence University and served as a lieutenant in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He worked briefly for the Veterans Administration before joining the city school system as a department administrator for adult education, principal of summer school and was the district's pupil personnel services administrator.

He retired in 1976 and served as president of Genesee CountyRetired Teachers. He was a member of the executive committee of the Western Zone and was state vice president for federal legislation.

Mr. Howe was a member of St. Mary's Church, a 50-year member of American Legion and a life member of Elks. He was on Genesee Arts Council and Batavia Players.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Helen Howe; seven sons, Richard and Gerald Howe of Batavia, Robert (Paula) Howe Jr. of Casselberry, FL, William Howe of San Francisco, John (Barbara) Howe of Ramstein Air Force Base, Germany, James (Karen) Howe of Manlius and David (Allyson) Howe of Fayetteville, N.C.; two daughters, Marie (Joe) Cervantes of Hemingford, Neb., and Katherine McSherry of Dubai, United Arab Emerates; seven grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Thomas Howe and brother of the late Gerald and Quentin Howe.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bohm-Calarco-Smith Funeral Home, 308 East Main St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Church.
